Dom Zilla. Tonight

Dom Zilla started making music from his bedroom in Newcastle at the age of 12. Honing his skills he quickly began making a name for himself on the local hip-hop scene. This garnered him some national attention, and by the age of 19 his beats were being used by artists such as Raekwon, Skinnyman and Fallacy.
With a change in musical direction, Dom Zilla saw underground success and critical acclaim producing and co-writing forLulu James – a heady fusion of her soulful vocal tones juxtaposed against his warped electronic textures and sparse beats. This included the songs ‘Rope Mirage‘, ‘Halfway to Hell‘ and the Black Butter classic ‘Be Safe‘. Using keys, light switches and doors closing to add depth to the electronic foundation, Dom’s joining the ranks with Jon Hopkins, James Blake, J Dilla etc. as pioneering a new form of electronic music with a subtle urgency.
With support from TLOBF, Noisey, Complex and Earmilk, Dom is definitely one to watch for 2016 and beyond. The video for his latest track ‘Tonight‘ [taken from his sophomore EP ii], follows the encounter of two young lovers who cross paths and instantly connect. A real highlight of the EP, ‘Tonight’ matches synthetic sound to a human approach, with a curious sense of soul amid the billowing electronics.
